It appears that Windows 8 on my computer has some problems after waking up from the sleep mode. Most noticeable is some programs being slow to open, perhaps 3-5 seconds instead of 1-2 seconds. My quicken sometimes won't open at all. Another program won't open when I click on its designated file type. If I reboot, which sometimes takes 3 or 4 minutes, all the problems go away. I supposed going sleep deprived may fix the problem
My system:
Intel i5 CPU 3.2 GHz
Memory 8 GB
64-bit
Windows8Pro
2 24-inch monitors
Today I couldn't print to my networked color printer until I rebooted Win 8. The computer has slept a couple of times since the last reboot. I don't know the problem is sleeping but this has never happened before.
I've been using personal computers for over 30 years and have never had to do that type of complete system maintenance to solve a problem. There have been a couple of times when a support technician had me update BIOS but that never made a difference. Windows is very good (XP and later) with providing updates automatically. If that's what I have to do to keep Win 8 running well, I'll go back to Win 7.
Some updates however aren't done automatically, and they might be critical in the performance of your computer.
As technology advances, so does the updates in order to keep you on track. You might want to give it a shot trying to update your BIOS to see if this will solve your problem.
My system has the latest available BIOS which was updated from the original BIOS. The problem seems to be Windows 8 since none of the problems occurred in the 2 years of operation with Windows 7.
