    Hello Peter,

Yes, it's safe to delete any item in Disk Cleanup whenever and however often you like.

The "Cleanup system files" option is basically to restart Disk Cleanup to have it "Run as administrator" to include junk from the system included as well.

Truly, it is a pleasure to post in this forum as everyone is so friendly and courteous. I have stricken out some forums which had information but were so impatient, condescending and acerbic.
We all had to learn at some time and it is refreshing, here, to receive posts that understand that.

I had to do a update clean up on my friends Vista laptop. But it was not getting deleted . I CHECKED everything and clicked Ok - tried it few times with no joy.

But this suggestion helped me alot & could delete them. So basically, I checked Windows Update Cleanup alone and clicked OK - and it worked

Thanks for this discussion. Since CCleaner new version has included monitoring - initially I couldn't get rid of that or automatic startup - I uninstalled it. This discussion is just what I am looking for - a method of cleaning up that is safe, now that I don't have CCleaner. Thanks.

    Whats going on?
Sorry guys... but I cringe every time I hear that someone has used CCleaner and now something doesn't work. My suggestion would be to try Wise Disk Cleaner Free Freeware download and reviews from SnapFiles as an alternative going forward and I'm sure it will resolve your current problem as well.

    Good luck.
Is Wise Disk Cleaner really wise to use? I see so many posts not to use ANY cleaners that I've grown skeptical about all of them.

Just my two cents - if the sole purpose is to regain disk space then I'd suggest using TFC by OldTimer. It's:

    1. Only 438 KB
    2. No installation required
    3. Anything that has .tmp extension regardless wherever it is including Recycle Bin will be deleted
    4. Will do it's job on the fly

Caution: If by any chance you are running any program from Temp location then it will not work

Big Caution - tried it found it deleted some of my taskbar icons for portable apps. Otherwise, it's ok. Just not for me. Will use Windows Disk Cleanup. Got lots of unused disk space anyway, so guess it's silly to try to clean it up. Thanks anyway.

Thanks to the advice from wonderful & helpful people in this forum, I don't use any third party cleaners especially registry ones
It'll make a mess later on.

I've been noticing lately a lot of people have been asking "Why is disk cleanup taking so long???". Some people seen to think Windows just deletes them right away or marks the file for deletion, but there is a little more involved than that, especially for kernel changes such as the updates on...
I'm running 8.1 with all updates on, supposedly. In Control Panel, Troubleshooting, System & Security, Fix Problems with Windows Update, Advanced, Run as Administrator: It says it fixed the problem (whatever that may be). I rerun it. It says it fixed the problem. This goes on ad infinitum. It...
Well, as the title suggests, I'm having an issue with Disk Cleanup with a new SSD I recently purchased. In all my years with HDDs I never had this problem. Disk Cleanup Not Deleting Files in Performance & Maintenance
I recently ran a Disk Cleanup as part of my regular maintenance on my new computer. It had over 2.18GB of files to cleanup. That seemed a little high considering I run it every week to 2 weeks. It said it deleted all the files. I ran the Scan Disk again to be sure and it still had 2.18GB of files....
Disk Cleanup Fail in Performance & Maintenance
Hi guys, This seems to be a common problem but the solutions are pretty lame and don't do anything. When I run disk cleanup (system files) I get 6.60GB under System queued windows error reporting. Of course disk cleanup just hangs (at least it was still hanging after an hour and a half). I...
