Big memory usage shown in task manager ( no app running)

    I have 4gb ddr3 memory .

Ive checked the new pretty task manager from Win8 and I saw upp to 30% memory usage without runing any app besides task manager ofc. I want to ask if is this normal ?

Ive took some screenshots for most of the entire taks manager window showing apps , background processes and windows processes ( sorry could capture the whole scrolling windows with snagit) ; the third one shows how they are ordered by memory usage :

took some screenshots from the performanve tab in the same task manager monitorizing my memory and GPU. Tell me if its ok:

Nah it's still much lower than my Windows 7 64-bit on my laptop which is 1.55 GB already used after startup, with only background startup programs running. Windows 8 believe it or not uses much less memory than 7 in most PCs.

I dont have programs to run at startup besides my Lifecam and and adobe updater which has a medium impact.I have yet lots of software to instal ( more form adobe, Steam etc) and I will have high memory usage when I will use Photoshop or Premiere or even wou opened multiple tabs with you browser. So I wonder If i can end task for some proceses listed on manager?

Don't interfere. Those are all system managed.
If you close one or two you free about 100mb and then Windows will see the extra unused space and add it to the cache to be filled again.

All the programs running (I saw your list above) make 29% for sure.
This is not as high as here: on my Win7 I use 59% (but I only got 1.5 GB max).

When you'll use too much then the system will know.
After Effects can use all your RAM that's for sure, but it will not affect the programs already running.
In case more memory is needed, the system will stop some of the services.

    Real scenario:
For example if After Effects (rendering) used 3.5GB ut of 3.9GB memory then task manager will say (total) 3.8 used out of 3.9 used (windows has only about 350mb left). After you close ae, you see 0.4GB out of 3.9 and slightly it will increase over time back tp 1.1GB out of 3.9 but it's normal.

Apps use much memory and they don't release it immediately after being closed. Keep that in mind.
You'll only make things worse If you begin with the "end task" routine when not needed.

    EDIT:
What you got there is a normal usage on 64bit.
And most programs use more than the same on 32bit.

so I see there is a priority for allocating resources in the favour of apps before background processes. Good to know that.

Pls reffer to the wallapper issue thread and see if works what Pauloz suggested last time. Replacing the compressed picture file with the original wallapper image. For me it doesnt work it will automtically create a new one https://www.eightforums.com/graphic-c...new-gpu-4.html
