Prepaing for new computer w. Win8 OS & installing software

My new laptop is on the way! YaY! So I am preparing myself to install a software package that I know is compatible with Windows 8. It is very large-over 20 gig-and demands a lot of RAM when installing and then 'indexing' itself which can take 8 hours, at least. My question is, given the 'lock' screen I have read about, when the software is downloading for several hours and then indexing, will a lock screen appear after a minute and stop everything. I am not asking about how to disable it but just what it will do when I let the software package run itself as it knows to do. Thanks for your help!

as with all laptops straight out the box, the power settings will be set to dim/turn off display/then shut down/hibernate over the course of 20-30 min.

if it's a long install then obviously plug in power and change the on power settings to never for everything, you can switch it back after.

just like with watching a video clip on the internet it seems to like ignoring the fact you are using it and turn itself off.

We always assume you have made your Recovery Disks using the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Media Creator app the first day you had your new PC.
& made the Startup Repair CD.
Recovery Drive - Create with USB Flash Drive in Windows 8
System Repair Disc - Create in Windows 8

Did you make the OEM manufacturer's Recovery Disks?

I ordered the dvd's necessary to backup Windows 8, the drivers and Cyberlink. Any apps or programs I install locally are already backed up on my external hard drive.

To fix or not to fix, that is the question. How do we know which computer cleaning software is telling the truth and not just throwing false positives on the screen? I just tried CCleaner and it told me it had cleaned up the Reg; deleted 522mb junk and a couple of other bits Then ran...
Question: How would you approach this migration? I just bought a copy of Acronis True Image 2013 with Plus Pack. It appears that this is all I need as True Image will install the new motherboard drivers as part of the migration process. But do I stay with MBR or move to GPT? Presently both...

OK, so long story short had windows 8 consumer preview. Loved it. Windows 8 Pro, hate it. Have to change a million things I didn't have to before. I previously had Autodesk Inventor 2013 installed. It installed just fine on consumer preview no errors or anything. Now with Windows 8 Pro I get an...
Hi all It seems to me that this is one area needs a bit of working on -- if you have an application that has loads of sub menus -- so that in total you might have 30 choices then the entire 30 are shown up on the metro panels meaning you have to right scroll forever to get to the option you want....
