Windows turns on PC after a shutdown (solved)

When I shutdown my PC, it turns off and then turns itself back on and boots into windows. I have checked every device and unchecked boxes in power tabs to not wake on activation.

The computer still keeps restarting after I shut it down. I went into the link at the bottom of the shutdown menu to change PC settings. I choose the option to shut down and it stays off.

As a result, I know it is something in Windows 8 that is restarting the PC. I just can't find it!

Perhaps you were hitting Restart instead of Shutdown? I know I've done that a few times myself. :)

No, it is still doing it with the windows shutdown button. When I type shutdown /s /t 0 instead of the windows shutdown, it stays off.

Any ideas?

I have tried shutting down the PC with the LAN cable, USB cables and speakers disconnected. It still turns on 1-3 seconds after it completely shuts down. I am at a loss now as it appears to be nothing that is connected to a port on my PC.

It is also strange that shutdown /s /t 0 prevents the computer from turning back on again, but the built-in windows shutdown button causes the restarts after shutdown. This tells me it is something about windows 8 that is by-passed when I use the shutdown command.

Just used the case button to cause shutdown. It restarted just like the other times. Only shutdown /s /t 0 works.

I solved it!

I unchecked the option "Turn on fast startup (recommended)" and the computer now stays turned off when I use the windows 8 shutdown.
