Autocheck fails

During start up I receive a message that windows can not find FbDraf.exe and it skips the auto check. This problem is familiar with other versions of windows and I believe it has something to do with a previous windows defrag program that didn't get uninstalled but still exist inside of the basic start up function.

I have tried to find a way to remove this reference to Fbdefrag. I looked into the registry, I set folder options to see all files and folders and searched but can not find any way to remove the reference to this file.

I thought about renaming or deleting autochk.exe and re installing from the dvb but could not find it on the dvd. There is no long an i386 folder. I did find the autochk in the system32 folder on the computer.

I have also tried to automatically repair the start up but it fails also.

Does anyone have an idea short of formatting and starting all over, reinstating the previous version of windows 7 ultimate and finding the file and re installing the windows 8 upgrade.

Please help if you can.

I checked all of the task manager tabs and didn't find anything close to fbdefrag listed. I believe the problem may have been the remnants of Windows Vista Ultimate that was installer prior to the upgrade to Windows 8. I was told that several programs were not compatible with Windows 8. I let Windows delete them and now I have this every time that I startup.

I think it could be from one of the following programs: Lenovo Optimizer, Wise Disk Cleaner, or Diskeeper 2011. I still use the updated versions of Wise and I continue to have Diskeeper installed.

I just worry that it may develop into a bigger problem later with the Autocheck not verifying the Windows Startup.

None of them need an Enabled entry in Startup. Just start the program when needed. If there, disable them. See if that resolves the problem.

Well, I started and ran each program but when I restarted; the condition remained. It seems to attached to the startup within windows and the autocheck. I went into the services and disable anything remotely looking like a defrag program and that didn't work either.

Download and unzip Startup List 2.02. Run it then save the output as text and upload here as an attachment.

I finally got the system refresh to work and ran it. It resolved my main problem. I now have to reload the applications that Windows didn't like keeping. I thank you for all of your help.
