Advice for arranging disks for system image and file BU

Hello. After a virus made my PC unusable I decided to install a new hard drive and go with a windows 8 pro upgrade for £24.99 direct from Microsoft. I thought I'd have loads of problems installing it but oh boy it was a breeze and I'm loving windows 8.

I am looking for advice on what if the best way for me to begin backing files up and storing system images. I have looked at the instructions on how to do them which I think I'll be able to follow, I just can't get it straight in my head what the best disk arrangement is.

So I have a new 1tb internal HD installed and partitioned (300gb as C drive rest as storage).

I have another 1tb internal hard drive available and do have a spare bay in the PC into which I could install it.
I also have a 1tb external hard drive that is empty.

Backing up and system images are new to me and I would be grateful to hear how you'd organise the drives.

Many thanks.

Definitely install the 2nd 1TB drive then you have many options for doing the actual backup.

Use the built in Backup of Windows 8
Use free Backup software like Macrium Reflect Free
Use purchased software like Acronis True Image Home.

Acronis has a built-in scheduler. I don't know if Macrium has one or not as I've not used it in quite a while, but you can use the Windows 8 Scheduler for this and for the built-in backup software.
