Creating a system backup on Windows 8

Hi

I'm a newbie and really hoping somebody can give me some advice about Windows 8!

I bought a laptop today which has Windows 8 pre-installed. The sales person in the shop told me I should make a system backup once I had set the compute up in case anything ever went wrong. As the laptop doesn't have a disk drive, the sales person told me I should use a USB flash drive to make the backup.

I bought the flash drive, got home set up the PC but now I'm really struggling to work out how I actually make the backup. I've gone into the backup option via my computer and completed that but don't know if that's correct.

The guy in the shop said the backup would be about 8GB and what I've done hasn't even used 1/2GB so it can't be right. I also tried to create a system image but turns out I can't do that with a flash drive (grrr).

Can somebody please give me a guide (for a true beginner) on how to make sure I've actually created a backup? I'd hate for something to go wrong and end up with a laptop I can't use or need to buy Windows again.

No worry , you will find a use for you 8gb for sure, it,a alwasy good to have an extra copy of important stuff in a different location ( fires thief , )
