Good question.

You might think a win7 repair disc would be able to pick up the backup image and restore it.

I haven't tried it - but I doubt it.

For marketing reasons, MS do not usually let previous o/s recovery work on the new version.

Worth a try - this may be an exception - after all, it is called win7 file recovery ( or something like that ) - even in win8.

Isn't it included in win8 repair options?

I think it is one those big squares you jab at - Advanced Options >System Image recovery

Hi si

You can make a Windows 7 Repair disc, in Windows 8's windows 7 recovery & backup.
Yes, it does work.

Hi Ray,

I think you will find it makes a win 8 repair disc- with the big squares when you boot it up. You can't make a win7 repair disc from windows 8 - you don't have win7 winre ( unless you are multibooting ).

He was asking if he can use an actual win7 repair disc - created on win7 - to restore a system image created by win8.

I don't know - never tried it.

Hello Kasinath, and welcome to Eight Forums.

I haven't tried it either, but we are not able to with Vista and Windows 7, so I would doubt that you could with Windows 7 and Windows 8.

However, you are able to create a system repair disc on any Windows 8 computer that is the same 32-bit or 64-bit as your Windows 8, and be able to use it on your computer to do the System Image Recovery with.

Of course, it's best that you have already created a system repair disc in your Windows 8 to have available as a backup if needed.

Hello ,

Thank you for the replies.

I created the 'system repair disc" in windows 8 by typing "recdisc" in run command.

I booted the system repair disc and it gives the "advanced option" menu under trouble shooting, which shows one of the option
as recovery forn system image.

I also made a system image using "windows 7 recovery" option in control panel.
