Solved Chkdsk Shortcut in Win7/8 ?

Back in the XP days I had a simple shortcut to Chkdsk.exe /f that saved me the extra step of invoking Command Prompt. That shortcut no longer works in Win8 or Win7, although Chkdsk from Command Prompt is fine. Does anyone know of a way to create a shortcut for Chkdsk in Win8, possibly by using Task Scheduler? This is not a life or death issue as it only saves one little step, but my curiosity has been piqued.

Hello bmwbiker,

It still works. The chkdsk command requires elevation to run, so you will need to right click on the shortcut (ex: .bat file) and click on Run as administrator for it to be able to run.

In addition, be sure to specify a drive letter you want to run chkdsk on. If it's for the C drive that Windows 8 is installed on, then you would have to type Y in the command prompt when it opens to set it to run at the next startup.

Hope this helps, :)

Thanks, Shawn! All I had to do to make my shortcuts work is click the box in Properties|Advanced|Run as Admin. Sometimes we overlook the obvious.
