Is it possible to create one click "system restore" icon-button on the desktop..I could do that in Windows 7 but not in windows 8..also" Disc cleanup " had the option of getting rid of the old restore points you did not want but not in Windows 8 ??

When disc clean-up window opens, click how disc clean-up works, the instructions are in the Help window.

You might also try this to delete restore points. It should still apply to Windows 8 as well.

I just went to *c:\windows\system32* and simply right-clicked on
the file rstrui.exe, and sent it to the desktop as a "System Restore"
shortcut.

Job done.

Hope this is of use to someone...

Not particularly worried as such, but I have had System Restore pinned to my Start Menu since XP.

Used it a LOT back then.

No reason not to continue, even tho it isn't needed anywhere near as much nowadays.

I had actually been fine accessing System Restore through the 'guts' menu, and it was
reading this thread that prompted me to restore the shortcut to see if it still worked.

It DOES come in handy when testing software and experimenting on/with a new OS, and
has copped a bit of use lately because of that.
