Backup

I did an original backup when I first upgraded to W8 on 26 Oct. I was not aware of this but when I did the original with the Microsoft recommendation it established a backup every Sunday. I don't know if this is necessary so should I do this or change it. Please advise

Well if your hard drive die, you lost everything. And it will not send you a SMS before die. Since I have a lot of PC here I'm using WHS 2011 for house PC . It make a first full system image and after it back up twice a day the new files added to the PCs.

But for a regular user, you can make a Restore Image of your system on an external disk the first time after installed the OS and Softwares. and you can use a software like GoodSync to make time to time copy of your new files after on an external drive to. They have $ 30 USB enclosures, you just throw a $ 80 Laptop HD in it and you are in business

Why not just use the built in file history feature of windows 8, just turn it on and point it to a drive you want it to use.
