Windows 8 performance not as good as W7

I installed W8 on my computer last week. I did a clean install, updated all my drivers and ran some benchmarks.W8 gave me 1000 less point on 3DMarkVantage than W7. What's up with that?

did you see a difference in the CPU or the GPU, I would guess poor performance of the GPU drivers with Windows 8, look how AMD increase the performance of the 7970 with just a driver.

Both CPU and GPU didn't perform as well on W8, but I think the CPU had the biggest drop. I really love the look and feel of W8 but I spent too much money on this rig to sacrifice performance for looks.

Is your decrease noticeable whatsoever in real life performance or during gaming, or just in this particular benchmark?

If you're gaming and notice no difference then I suggest you take no heed from 'benchmarks.'

Well I do a lot more benchmarking than games and no I don't notice any difference in real world performance only in chasing numbers

Chasing these numbers can drive a person mad. I use the numbers to make sure that I am in the ballpark and not experiencing a significant driver issue...but aside from that, if real world performance is fine...then i stop looking at my benchmarks.

    To each their own however.

can cost a fortune too, upgrade the cooling, mod the voltage on the GPU and burn it, don't ask how I know
