Yeah, there was a time that I was into that stuff as well. But I later discovered that I can get 90% of the performance for a fraction of the cost and effort and found other things to spend my time and money on. I realize that computers are a hobby for many and there is nothing wrong with spending time on them...but you can literally go broke and crazy trying to squeeze every last bit out of it.

Nowadays, I shoot for great bang for the buck, in a nice case, that's as quiet as possible. I overclock slightly still, but not to the point where I have to add case fans or change cooling solutions. I prefer the KISS approach (Keep it Simple Stupid)

You guys are absolutely right, however I only use moderate overclocks when I bench. Actually because I like W8 so much I'm going to create a separate partion and install on that. Hope the RAID 0 config doesn't mess me up.

Oh for Pete's sake, why in the world are you running in a RAID 0?

Now that TRIM is supported in raid 0, I will use it too, it's so simple to recover my OS from my servers

What benefit do you believe you are gaining? Mechanical drives in a RAID 0, for an OS and apps should really be replaced with an SSD. SSD's in a RAID 0 really don't provide much benefit except for extremely fast write speeds...the overwhelming advantage of an SSD is low random access times and these don't really improve with a RAID 0 array.

I'm well aware that your total throughput will increase, but in the real world, it amounts to next to nothing. I have an SSD using SATA 3.0Gbps at home getting around 230MB/sec and I have an SSD at work on SATA 6.0Gbps getting around 515MB/sec...and I see almost no difference booting and launching apps.

Trim is still only supported on the z chipset series. X79 and anything before it is still waiting for drivers from Intel.
