    7031 errors Win 10 Pro

    Hi there,

    I'm getting a lot of 7031 error in Win 10 pro and have been looking for the fix. I read your solution but I'm not sure I can try it since the errors in my log do not list any users for the error. It simply lists User: N/A

    1. Open Regedit.
    2. Go to HKEY_Classes_Root\CLSID\*CLSID*.
    Note: *CLSID* stand for the ID that appears in your event viewer error. In your case, it's {C2F03A33-21F5-47FA-B4BB-156362A2F239}.
    3. Right click on it then select permission.
    4. Click Advance and change the owner to Administrators. Also click the box that will appear below the owner line.
    5. Apply full control.
    6. Close the tab then go to HKEY_LocalMachine\Software\Classes\AppID\*APPID*.
    Note: *AppID* is the ID that appears in your event viewer. In your case it's {316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97}.
    7. Right click on it then select permission.
    8. Click Advance and change the owner to Administrators.
    9. Click the box that will appear below the owner line.
    10. Click Apply and grant full control to Administrators.
    11. Close all tabs and go to Administrative tool.
    12. Open component services.
    13. Click Computer, click my computer, then click DCOM.
    14. Now look for "Immersive Shell".
    15. Right click on it then click properties.
    16. Click security tab then click Customize in the Launch and Activation permissions section. Click Edit. Click Add. Add Local Service. Then apply.
    17. Tick the Local Activation box.
    Assume for Windows 10 x64 nbr. 6 is reading

    Can only assume(!)... that is not required to change permissions of

    Or do I need to do them for both?

    there is even a 3rd key: HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\AppID\{316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97}

    apart of that, following this procedure I managed to get rid of a few other 10016 errors, like

    CLSID {D63B10C5-BB46-4990-A94F-E40B9D520160}
    APPID {9CA88EE3-ACB7-47C8-AFC4-AB702511C276} dcomcnfg->RunTimeBrokerand

    CLSID {7022A3B3-D004-4F52-AF11-E9E987FEE25F}
    APPID {ADA41B3C-C6FD-4A08-8CC1-D6EFDE67BE7D} dcomcnfg->"WPN Srumon Server"

    CLSID {C2F03A33-21F5-47FA-B4BB-156362A2F239}
    APPID {316CDED5-E4AE-4B15-9113-7055D84DCC97} dcomcnfg->"Immersive Shell"

    in spite of many attempts the eventid 10016 regretfully remains.

    I'd have to look at it, but remember this thread (and the instructions) were originally for Windows 8. These may, or may not, work for Windows 10.

    This can help you simplifying the above mentioned fix process: will let you directly run 'comexp.msc' (component services) as TrustedInstaller (!), and apply the fixes...
    RunasSystem and RunFromToken -
    (From an Admin prompt use the small script at the bottom of the page to quickly run a new 'cmd' as TrunstedInstaller...)

    No need to mess with registry keys access. Cleaner.
    You can start directly from point 12, msg #29.

    I was able to make the ownership changes in the registry but when I got to DCOM Config I seem not to have permission to change anything in security, even though I am administrator on this laptop. I am the only user and I'm the administrator. If I get that far and then can't make the changes to WPN SRUMON server properties, am I broken or will I be ok? I'm afraid to turn this off! (I now run Windows 10 but the registry keys were indeed all owned by trustedinstaller which I changed to administrators. I have had this problem with Windows for years, that I'm the administrator but it keeps not knowing I am at random moments...
