    Display randomly dimming during use

    Hi Guys,

Im new to these forums so bare with me.

I have upgraded to windows 8 pro (no dodgy hacks) it is the full version and is 32 bit. Once battling with System_Thread and Unreadable_memory and any bsod you can think of I got it working BUT now for some weird reason the screen randomly dims and I have to darken the screen to get it to brighten up again. Your probably thinking, move the mouse but this happens when im doing something i.e typing this right now. I have changed the power management settings and it is set to never dim? Any suggestions, as you can imagine this is extremely frustrating.

I have a HP Pavilion DV7-4010tx for the record.

    Cheers

Hello Brandon, and welcome to Eight Forums.

This may be Adaptive Brightness being turned on causing this. You could use the tutorial below to turn this off to see if this is indeed the cause of your issue.

Adaptive Brightness - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

    Hope this helps,

    Hi Shawn,

Thank you for your response, unfortunately I had already changed this unusual setting and still no luck?
Anymore ideas would be greatly appreciated

    Cheers

You might also check to see if your monitor/display may have a similar feature built into it that you could turn off in it's onscreen settings.

I have an AMD ATI Radeon HD5000 series or something like that, the driver software is up to date and doesnt have a setting for adjusting brightness, much to my disgust when I updated the driver just now I am no longer able to load Windows 8, I get a System_thread exception or something like that bsod response.

Solution: Installed windows 7 upgraded every driver that was out of date, clean installed windows 8 works fine. Good luck to anyone who gets this in the future!
