CPU not clocking down when idle

In windows 8 my Core i5 3750K CPU does not reduce its clock-speed when idle. As I run an OC of 4,3Ghz, it gets pretty hot in idle, allthough it do reduce vCore a little.

Dualbooting with Windows 7, and there the cpu clocks down just fine works, so not a BIOS problem.

Seems to have some small HW issues with win8. CPU at full speed and really slow USB3 performance.

This is a clean install? You left Intel's Speedstep on in the BIOS and is the BIOS the latest version?

Yes. Clean install, and yes, BIOS is latest version, and as written, it works in win7, reboot in win8, and it is NOT working. Rebooting to win7 and all works again. No changes in BIOS in any of the reboots.

Try resetting to factory defaults for your mobo and running stock.

Hi! I know that this is an old thread. But let me just add that you may try looking first at your power options on control panel. See to it that it is set to Balanced so it automatically adjusts according to which the system requires. Switch to Power saver if you want it to stay on low clock for most of the time. If it is set to High performance, it will never clock down even when in idle.

I hope this helps anyone with this problem in the future. Good day!
