When connected to VPN some applications don't have internet connection

Hey guys - I'll get right to the point.

I'm connected to my Wi-Fi network:

I then connect to my VPN service:
Notice how now the Wi-Fi shows "Limited".

This tricks Windows 8 into thinking that I don't have an active internet connection. Internet Explorer doesn't work and some Metro Apps show as being in offline mode:

Is there a solution to this? I've tried to play around with the VPN settings but didn't have any luck.

Basically - when connected to VPN Windows doesn't think I have an active internet connection. Certain Microsoft apps don't work but Chrome and Steam and all of that work fine.

    Here is the solution:

Open the settings of the VPN
    Go to networking
    Go to TCP/IP 4 properties
    Go to advanced
On the tab IP Settings uncheck "Use default gateway on remote network" and keep the "Disable class..........." unchecked as well
    Close the VPN
    Restart the VPN
    Metro Apps will work....................
Let me know if it worked.

Nevermind - you may think this works but all of your traffic just goes through your normal network and not your VPN.

    Greetings all,

My Win 8 is having the same issues. However I am using Himachi by Logmein (a kind of ssl backdoor-full time access to remote or disparate networks). Everything was working fine up until 2 days ago (may have happened longer ago but was working remotely from this computer as much). Didn't notice any updates from MS nor Logmein. The only way to get my IE to work is to:

    Start a command prompt
    type ipconfig /release
    then type ipconfig /renew

Afterwards the images in my outlook download and IE works. This will last for about 5 min or so then the network issue occurs again. Chrome does not seem to be as effected (as I am using that to access this forum while my Outlook and RDP are connecting via Hamachi)
