Boxee Box Sees PC Folders, but Not Files

I have tried everything setting up Win 8 for sharing files over a wired network setup as a Workgroup. I set the permissions on the folder containing videos to Everyone has permission to read and write. Boxee Box can see the folders, but not the files. I am using BitDefender 2013 and I have disabled Firewall and Anti Virus.

Win8 was installed on top of Win 7 (where Boxee could see the videos). Is Win 8 different than Win 7 as regard to sharing and permissions?

Many thanks,

You might try going into the security tab>Edit>Add, of the drive or the folder you need to share and type in, "Everyone" there as well. You can adjust the access for Everyone using the check marks for full permissions as required. :)

I did that, as shown in my OP. I still have the same problem.

So you are aware that the sharing tab is different than the security tab and both have full permissions for Everyone?

Maybe this will help.

Tips for network shares with Boxee

It might have something to do with SMB share access in which case relaxing the security would help.

Control Panel - Administrative Tools - Local Security Policy

Local Policies - Security Options

Network security: LAN Manager authentication level
Set to Send LM & NTLM responses only

Set the Minimum session security for NTLM SSP
Disable Require 128-bit encryption

Something changed in how Boxee works. I have the same problem. The workaround is to add permissions for "anonymous login." You can make them read only. For some reason, despite typing in a username and password when accessing the share, boxee still seems to want to use anonymous to browse. I actually found this post trying to find an actual fix. Just add the permission to the level directory and allow the others to inherit the permission. I am trying to find a more secure way though. Don't forget, you sometimes have to exit to the main menu and even occasionally turn off/on boxee for it to try to see the directory again, as it caches last results.
