"Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

I am trying to setup my new cable modem in my bedroom and I have everything hooked up and all proper lights on but I can't connect wired on my nintendo switch or my laptop.

I do have a cable modem in other room that works fine.

I do not use a router so please don't suggest one.

In network connection Ethernet is Unidentfied network.

What do I need to do to obtain an IP address? So I can plug my Ethernet to my Nintendo Switch or Laptop and have access to online?

Do I have to do setup a new connection or network?
Entering modem IP just displays offline web page./Network dianosgic displays Topic title message.

Any suggestions?

Welcome to the forum. What sort of connection do you have is it cable via coax or via phone how are you connecting modem to modem is what ports? Are they modems or routers with modem in not being able to see we can only go by what you tell us

Might be solved but won't know till later.

From what it looks like, I have to call them and add the modem to the ISP database for my location for it to connect to internet. I will find out later tonight if this resolves the problem.

Edit: Everything is connected as it should be.(just need to register it with my ISP and I should be able to connect)
