Which would be the best Mode to use?

I have just bought a TP-Link TL-WR702N Nano router.

I have a upto 78MB fibre connection.

I have had an extension built which the current wifi signal cannot reach. The extension has CAT6 coming from the router in the main house which is connected to a TP-Link switch.

The 702N is connected to the TP-Link switch by a ethernet cable.

I would like a wifi signal to connect my mobile phone and laptop to while in the extension.

The 702N has a number of modes to choose from but I don't know what the advantages or disadvantages are with each mode.

I was thinking of using 'repeater mode' but are there any disadvantages in using this mode?

There is 'AP mode' and 'Router mode' but don't know if there are any good or bad points with these?

Connect the cat6 to the TP-Link TL-WR702N and set it to AP (access point), this should give you a usable service ( the Ethernet port is only fast Ethernet but should be ok for an up to 78 Mb/s service ), not sure how the Wireless settings can be set but they should be OK if set to N or preferably N+g=b to match any device you use in the extension

Wondering why 'AP' is best compared to the others?

Access point is what I would take to be a setting allowing Access to the wireless network

The other modes look like the put the device into modes where it is used for infrastructure components You could use it as a wireless repeater if there was not an Ethernet connection, but would need to be located where it could "see" both the main router and the farthest devices - the maual for the device should give more detailed information

This support page may give you a clearer understanding ( and has access to PDF data which is searchable ). you may find that more than one option will work and that a little experimentation is useful
