Solved How to change Network to 'Home Network'?

I recently changed ISP and must have changed the default settings.
I can't remember what the settings were before: I didn't take much notice because everything was working as it should.

Since I chose the wrong network I'm having problems connecting to certain websites and even trying to login into my Synology account: I got this to work by (if I remember correctly) putting the Synology account on a 'whitelist'.

My Network is showing as 'Public Network', but how do I change it to show 'Home Network'?

I ask, because MinimWatch is not working due to me choosing the wrong type of Network.
The way to fix it is to choose 'Home Network', but I can't find a way how to do this.

I did follow a tutorial on how to change between 'public and private' (http://www.eightforums.com/tutorials/9837-network-location-set-private-public-windows-8-a.html) but the options that should be showing, don't show up when I right click my network connection.

Will I have to change 'wifi' and 'ethernet' to 'Home Network'?

I'm completely stuck now.

1. You don't have UAC on full right?

2. did you try the Secpol.msc part later in the tutorial as well?

Since I chose the wrong network

- noticed this as well, So you could have chose Public or Private and you needed Private??

- last resort would be uninstall your Network card and let windows reinstall it automatically on the next restart..

Thanks for your help.

UAC was on full!
Once that was adjusted I could only do 'option 2' - I changed it from 'public' to 'private', but MinimWatch still is not working, and as mentioned above, I read that the network needs to be set to 'Home' for it to work.

I can't use 'Secpol.msc' as I don't have the 'Pro' or 'Enterprise' editions.

It looks like I will have to do as you said and uninstall the Network card.
So will it be as simple as you say and as soon as I restart my laptop I will be asked what type of network I want to set up and I can pick 'Home network'?

I don't know if this has anything to with the problem, but checking the wifi status, it says for IPv6 Connectivity: No Network access.

Update
I don't like messing round with the registry but managed to change wifi to 'private' and it's done the trick.

So You did the registry edit.. What about when you turned down UAC.. you mention that MinimWatch didn't work still..

but after the Registry edit then it worked?

When I changed the UAC down I used 'Option 2' but I don't if this was for Wifi or Ethernet.
It must have been Ethernet because I decided to try the Ethernet connection and straight away the MinimWatch icon popped up green which tells me that was working correctly.
I then decided to try regedit to change the settings for wifi, and it did the job.
MinimWatch now shows it's working correctly on both connections.
Thanks for pointing me in the right direction.
