Solved Homegroup sharing/network path does not exist

I have an issue with homegroup sharing. I have been to countless sites with no solution. The point I want to make...is I had it all working fine...then I "moved" 1 computer ( I have an ASUS RT-N66U Off my modem....Computer #1 was connected to this through ethernet cable....Computer #2 was connected to this through wireless...and #3 is connected by Ehternet cable to a Linksys WRT54G2 which is connected by cable to the RT-N66U) Sharing was fine between all computers until I moved #1 out to the garage for a while and connected it to the WRT54G2 via cable.....then my home group went to ****...sharing gone....I get the no network path error. I moved #1 back in the house and re-established my original set-up. I have left and re-created homegroups numerous times....I un-shared and re-shared my folders. What I have now is...all 3 have joined homegroup....all 3 show up in the network. #1 only sees #2 in the homegroup...and cannot access the shared folders on #2 and #3. #2 sees no computers in the homegroup...but can access the shared folders on #1 and #3 by selecting them through the network field. #3 sees none in homegroup, and cannot access any shared folders. #1 running Win 8.1....2 & 3 are running Win 7. I did run across the one PC that would not start media streaming service....I resolved this issue....then discovered that under media streaming sharing options the other pc's were not listed under the private network....but the public network....so I left the homegroup......uninstalled network adapters...deleted thefiles in peernetworking folder (on all machines)...then rebooted....rejoined homegroup....and then all computers showed up in media sharing options on the private network. But same problem as I started with. I have always access shared drives through the icons under network....not homegroup. I share (secondary) harddrive on #1, and #2....on #3.. I share the C drive. When all are joined in the homegroup....#1 only sees #2 in the homegroup...(sees all in network)...can't access share drives on 2 or 3. Computer # 2 shows no others in homegroup....(all in network) and can access the shared drive on #1 and the shared C drive on #3 (through the network icons). # 3 only shows #2 in homegroup (all in network)...and cannot access shared drives on #1 and #2. As mentioned...I had this set up for years....during that time I have connected probably a dozen other computers to my network temporarily....joined the homegroup...and been able to access the shared drives. The problem did not appear until I moved #1 computer to a different location and connected it through the linksys router which was connected to my primary Asus router. I my most recent attempts...I have moved all to directly connect to my main router (asus)....I powered everything down (computers / modem / router) for a good 5 minutes....then powered back up. I have tried dozens of suggested remedies with no changes. No matter what I do...#2 is the only 1 that will access the share files on other computers....and it the one on the wireless connection.

I have made a discovery....I tried to just share folders through network by mapping drives.....get the same issues....message "windows cannot access \\ XXXXX-PC".....I am just working with 2 computers now.....through same router....I even renamed my workgroup on both computers.....I have uninstalled Malwarebytes on both. Both computers show up on the network on both PC's.....

I think I found the problem... on computers 1 and 3 I enter in the run command "\\localhost" and get the error "windows cannot access \\localhost"....it works on #2...which is the computer that can access files on the other 2.....how do I fix this?

I discovered my problem.....on computers #1 and #3 lmhosts (TCP/IP NetBIOS helper) was disabled......I think it was from using Regcure Pro and/or PC Cleaner Pro system performance booster options. After enabling this service all homegroup/sharing works again.

ha.. typical.. thats why the first thing I tell anyone usually is "what did you install or change"..

you used a "booster" program.. those definitely change things

I am in a situation right now where my "share" folder is greyed out and I can't begin to start thinking of what I've changed.. So a clean reinstall is coming soon for me!

But in my case, I know it's something I've disabled or changed.. but I just changed too much to go back and troubleshoot..

glad you got it worked out though..
