Solved Losing Too Many Packets - Wifi barely working on laptop

Hello,
So the other day my laptop's wireless internet connection stopped working.
Other devices in my household are unaffected, including a desktop with a wireless connection, my phone, and a Playstation 3.

It tells me my internet is connected but it's incredibly slow and gives me DNS errors or time out errors, although sometimes I can connect to google but just barely.

I tried to use a USB Wireless Connection over the wireless adapter with no success. I have ensured my wireless network drivers are up to date. An ethernet cable works and I can connect when hardwired.

I have tried ipconfig release/renew and dnsflush/dnsregister.

My IPV4 and IPV6 are set to automatically connect.

I have reinstalled driver software for my wireless adapter.

Every time I ping my router, I get between 25%-100% packet loss, and consistently get 100% packet loss when pinging google and the like.

I thought it was a hardware issue until I used the Wireless USB device and it had no better effect.

At this point I suspect it's a firewall issue.
I've run a scan with malwarebytes and Kaspersky but neither turned up anything at all, not to rule out that it might be a virus or malware but just to indicate I've thought of that, too.

I run a Windows 8.1, Intel i5. If I need to include any other specs please let me know.
Attached is a tracert I ran on yahoo.

Have you disabled Kaspersky and/or firewall temporarily to see if it makes a difference? A restore point before this started?

Yes, I tried a restore point from before the problems started.
I disabled Kaspersky, and turned off Windows Defender/Firewall.
I also tried toggling the firewall on my router.

Good suggestions, though.

Since it is a laptop I would take it someplace else just to verify that it does the same thing. Maybe something strange between your router and laptop.

Just took it to a coffee shop and it connects just fine. Well now we narrowed it down to being something funky between my home connection and laptop. Great suggestion!
Now if we could just figure out what that funky thing is...

Have you tried forgetting the network then add it back manually through Network and Sharing?

I've forgotten the Network and then reconnected to it, but by 'manually' do you just mean finding the connection again through the network list? If yes, then yes I've done that.

Yea, if you have broadcasting on then no need to manually add it back. Maybe reboot after forgetting it. Scratching my head trying to think what could make just the laptop have problems with the router when it was working.

EDIT: Maybe try a different SSID on the router and see if it works. Or a router 30-30-30 reset which you may not want to do, write everything down or export config file first.

If I do a router 30-30-30 reset, do I need to contact my ISP?
I'm pretty comfortable using the GUI so I could change the configuration pretty easily.

Oh no, I assumed you had a regular router but if a gateway from your ISP I can't recommend any kind of reset. Contact them.

Well what would be a 'regular' router? It's one I can physically reset I'm just not sure if my ISP would be helpful for that process or if I can do everything by myself.

Some ISPs provided modems that have the router functions built in but sounds like that is not your case. What make/model is it? Just go to their site for all the info on it. Do you know how to directly connect to it with a LAN cable to set it up? It should have an option in the menu to export the settings so you can restore if you get into trouble. Also here is a guide on 30-30-30 reset: Hard reset or 30/30/30 - DD-WRT Wiki

May want to check for updated firmware for the router also.

You should not have any problem resetting the router even it was provided by your ISP. All it does is to reset the router default LAN address, clear up the DNS Cache, clear the Admin Password and set back to default. Depend on what type of subcription you have with them whether you have static IP or Dynamic IP. If dynamic, you might get another WAN IP assigned.

Happened to help a friend with an All In One box (Modem+Router+Phone). His All In One box is on the 2nd floor and his mobil devices (Iphone, Ipad, Smart TV, Laptop etc...) are on the first floor so the wireless signal is only 5% strong. So indeed I did reset the box from ISP and change the LAN Address then use his old router as an access point for downstair to boost up the wireless signal and ended up with 100% boost.

Yes, If you are using your own router. Update firmware is a must if available

I did a 30-30-30 and saw no improvement. Also spoke to my ISP and they're going to send me a new router. The Upload on my current router is still flashing amber so there really might be something wrong with it. It's about 2 years old as well.
If I don't figure out something in the meantime I'll post again on Monday or Tuesday when I have the new router hooked up to see if that helped.

Edit: My Arris is running a 7.5.63c firmware, model DG860 (I think). I checked the site and there doesn't seem to be a new firmware update.
