Well what would be a 'regular' router? It's one I can physically reset I'm just not sure if my ISP would be helpful for that process or if I can do everything by myself.

Some ISPs provided modems that have the router functions built in but sounds like that is not your case. What make/model is it? Just go to their site for all the info on it. Do you know how to directly connect to it with a LAN cable to set it up? It should have an option in the menu to export the settings so you can restore if you get into trouble. Also here is a guide on 30-30-30 reset: Hard reset or 30/30/30 - DD-WRT Wiki

May want to check for updated firmware for the router also.

You should not have any problem resetting the router even it was provided by your ISP. All it does is to reset the router default LAN address, clear up the DNS Cache, clear the Admin Password and set back to default. Depend on what type of subcription you have with them whether you have static IP or Dynamic IP. If dynamic, you might get another WAN IP assigned.

Happened to help a friend with an All In One box (Modem+Router+Phone). His All In One box is on the 2nd floor and his mobil devices (Iphone, Ipad, Smart TV, Laptop etc...) are on the first floor so the wireless signal is only 5% strong. So indeed I did reset the box from ISP and change the LAN Address then use his old router as an access point for downstair to boost up the wireless signal and ended up with 100% boost.

Yes, If you are using your own router. Update firmware is a must if available

I did a 30-30-30 and saw no improvement. Also spoke to my ISP and they're going to send me a new router. The Upload on my current router is still flashing amber so there really might be something wrong with it. It's about 2 years old as well.
If I don't figure out something in the meantime I'll post again on Monday or Tuesday when I have the new router hooked up to see if that helped.

Edit: My Arris is running a 7.5.63c firmware, model DG860 (I think). I checked the site and there doesn't seem to be a new firmware update.

Replaced the router and issue went away. I'll mark it as solved.
Thanks everyone who helped me troubleshoot!
