If it is just a USB Dongle, it should show up in Network Connections. Usually there is software you can install from the provider to help you know what you are using.

    thanks
    1. yes it's a USB dongle and it shows up only in the list when i press on the network icon (img 1.) but when i go into settings and from there to networks (img 2.) i don't see it

    2. i do have software that came with the dongle but it doesn't show how much i use

and i don't want it as metered to view how much i used i want it that windows shouldn't download updates etc.

    thanks again

It will always be a metered connection, because it is cellular data.

The Tutorials at the top are a wealth of information. Instead of getting frustrated, because no one is answering posts 24/7, you need to understand that we have lives outside of this forum. Being that I am a night owl, I usually am only on here from late afternoon to early morning.

As for your question. See the following for the answer. Like I stated, Brink has them there, so that you do not have to wait for an answer, if you are in a rush. Metered Internet Connections for Devices - Turn On or Off in Windows 8

    1. THANK YOU i really appreciate the help i get here on the forum from you and from everybody i'm really sorry that you understood that that i'm getting frustrated that no one is answering that's not the reason i sound frustrated i got frustrated because it looks like such a simple thing and it just doesn't work
and yes i do understand that people have lives outside of here and because of that i really appreciate when someone helps

2.1 As for your answer. my question is as followed. i have a ZTE MF190 3G dongle with a limited amount of internet Data on it, it comes with a software that does 2 things 1. it installs the drivers for it in the PC 2. i am able to connect to the internet through it but if i want i could just create dial up connections an connect thought them (as that's what the software doe's when i connect through it), what it doesn't do is capture the amount of data used.
So what i wan't is that i should be able to set somewhere that this connection is metered so windows shouldn't download driver updates, i know that i'm able to just turn off the device automatic updates but that's like building a hospital next to the broken bridge, and not everywhere it's even feasible like in windows 10

2.2 About the link you posted that link is how to turn on or off the setting "if windows should download drivers over metered connections" not how to set a connection as metered.

thanks again i really appreciate the help you are giving me THANK YOU.

We all tend to get frustrated. My bite is worse than my bark at times. Any other issues, keep track of them and if you cannot find an answer by search or in the tutorials, also look at sevenforums.com and tenforums.com.

My wife blames me on getting too involved when I have system problems. If I try and go to sleep with it on my mind, I have to get back up and keep working on it. Majority of the time it is just trial and error.

Usually Metered is set to off if you are using a Private Network profile. If you use say a Local account for when using the Dongle, you should be able to make that one a metered connection. It is one of the areas that I really do not think Microsoft thought out very well.
