Red computer icons in Homegroup

I have been using Homegroup on my PCs for years and never ever noticed this.
Last week I did clean installs of Win 8.1 on both my laptop and tablet and I suddenly noticed that they are represented by a red icon in the Homegroup.
During troubleshooting I "left" the Homegroup with all PCs, made a fresh homegroup and reconnected, but the red icons just appeared again.
Things seem to work normally, I can access all shared files from all PCs on all other PCs.
This makes me wonder: did I miss these red color of the icons all these years, or did they just appear now and does the red color indicate something I should correct?

Thanks in advance for sharing your thoughts and wisdom!

Never seen that before. What happens if you click on one of them?

It seems that everything works as usual, doubleclicking an icon opens the list of shared items as it has always done.
It is just the red color, I suspect it is warning me for something.
If I only knew why.....

No, just Windows Defender, Malwarebytes and EMET.

No Desktop skins either I take it? No unusual programs that have been loaded? I am at as much of a loss as you are on that. What happens when you do a Safe mode with Networking or setup a local account on that computer?

Nope, all machines have a plain vanilla Windows installation.
I noticed that on the 'affected' machines the red icons are shown as well, so the red icon display is shown on all Homegroup machines.
I am inclined to think it is something that the Homegroup 'management' pushes to the machines, i.e. something in the Outlook.com account / sync server at MS.
