    Creating a file server properly.

If you are running an EsXi host (on domain with static ip) and get in via vsphere, and create a new VM and make the server, a file server by adding the role. How do you make it so that all domain users can see the share drive when they click "computer"?

Confused a bit. Are you saying everyone is same domain or different domains? If same domain then should just be a matter of sharing the drive with proper security credentials in place.

If different domains then maybe this will help: windows server 2003 - How can I map a network drive from another domain? - Server Fault

Other places I worked, in AD you just went to profile and entered the unc \\fileserver\users\%username% and once applied their name appeared and they had access after reboot. None of the AD accounts are like that where I am now. It appears that they are all mapped? Who knows! The way I described above, actually, was to create an allocated amount of space on the server that they could use as a backup drive. So I am confused as to how to give access to shares? I think just map it, right? But can't I do that in AD when creating their profile?

I have never set one up so guess not much help. Imagine you have read the available documentation such as this: VMware ESXi step-by-step Installation Guide with Screenshots

Good luck and maybe someone else here has some experience with it.

Found this but requires sign in: Creating ESXi shared storage in VMware vSphere Hypervisor

I thought about creating a home file server using the Windows Home Server [Quattro] but Windows Server 2012 Essentials came out before I got around to it. I ended up connecting a NAS/Network Attached Storage drive to my Router for simple file storage then in Windows Explorer/File Explorer map it and drag the Public Folder to the Computer icon in WE/FE, shows in the pane below other drives as Z: [Windows default]. It can even be mapped and used in Linux Mint and Mac OS X 10.
