    No WiFi N 5GHz detected

I have a cisco e4200 and after installing Windows 8 RP, I was unable to find the 5GHz band. I am getting 90Mbs on the 2.4 GHz band and I know my 5Ghz band can give me more. The 5 GHz band is detected on my PC before Windows 8 was installed but I can't find it on my PC now. I have two computers who support the 5 GHz band and both can't find it but did with Windows 7. The 2.4 GHz band and 5 GHz band are separately named so that isn't the problem. Can anyone help me?

This is most likely just a driver problem as most drivers have not been updated to support Windows 8.

Using the compatibility mode by right clicking before you install the driver might help.

If you want full wireless N speed of 300Mb/s then using the 802.11n Only mode in your routers settings with WPA2 security and AES encryption will get you there.

5 Ghz worked under CP, but disappeared under RP. Seems to be a common problem. Anyone making headway on this?

Yes this is a common problem and everyone trying to use the 5Ghz band has similar complaints. You can read about it in link below at TechNet.

As I mentioned earlier it's no doubt a driver problem and probably won't be fixed until after Windows 8 is officially released.

    windows 8 preview

I have been having the same problem since I've been using Windows 8. I am using the Linksys WUSB600N adapter. The 2.4 ghz is the only band showing up but this was with me letting windows install the driver itself. I went and redownloaded the drivers from linksys's page .. the version 2 driver and manually installed the 64-bit driver and PRESTO!! 5 ghz running strong. so much better!!

    Windows 8.1

If it helps, my Windows 8 ASUS laptop came with an Intel N 7260 dual band (plus Bluetooth) WiFi card. All worked perfectly. I updated to Win 8.1. No 5GHz reception. Tried a Dell N1510 network card from other laptop, updated the driver and it all works perfectly except I now don't have Bluetooth which I hopefully can solve with a cheap dongle.

There are some issues with 8.x.x with the various Wireless chipsets. Microsoft is not being forthcoming on this issue. The chipset manufacturers are just scratching their heads and rears.

My thought is that MS is not seeing too many people using 5ghz for wifi. So they are killing that part of the code in .1.x. Why, who knows with them.

If you run inSSIDer or do a "netsh wlan show all" in a command window. Does it even show the Linksys in 5ghz band, when viewing in inSSIDer? netsh wlan show all, will show you what the adapter is capable of under the current OS.
