    Strange connection issue

    Hi

I recently purchased this new laptop:

    Asus X555LF
    Intel® Core™ i3 5010U Processor
    DDR3L 1600 MHz SDRAM 8GB
    NVIDIA® GeForce® 930M with 2GB DDR3 VRAM
    1TB HDD

Modem: WiMAX Network Adaptar (I checked the manage section > network adapter, this is the name that displays there, couldn't find manufacturer name/model no etc but I believe its a Huawei wifi dongle(usb) modem)
    ISP: Banglalion

I'm running this system on Windows 8.1 64bit.

No issues for the first couple of days other than I noticed this strange ping inconsistency, for example when running ping test in google(note: I tested with other sites like facebook, twitter, youtube etc sites as well), I used to get 120ms to 180ms in average on my old system using same wifi modem.
And using the same wifi modem on this new system .. on the same spot ... the ping was 300ms + .. and the freaky part was when I tested the modem on the old system .. it still displayed its average ping of 120ms to 180ms.

Anyway as I don't know much about networking and being totally new to win 8, I thought it would fix with driver updates etc later on so I somewhat ignored it.

But for the last couple of days this issue(the main one that I'm trying to get resolved) started ... suddenly I start getting "Request timed out" and it continues ... when I reconnect the modem using its own software ... it connects but this time .. when I try running a ping test with google again .. on the CMD window it displays "Ping couldn't find host .... " and then the CMD window closes.
And with this issue present .. if I try opening any website in any browser (firefox/chrome) .. none opens.
But with multiple modem reconencts .. sometimes google or some other site opens maybe for first 1/2min of reconnect and then .. same issue again and within this 1/2mintue period .. ping still displays "Ping couldn't find host .... ".

Today I visited my ISP's tech support and the tech guy suggested that this is probably a windows issue as based on his words .. the modem worked perfectly fine on windows 7 .. and from previous experience I used this same modem on win 7 for 4/5 years within any similar issues.

I don't mind switching to win 7 but while using win 8 .. I've started to like it and would like to stick with it but I need the net and in my area they are the only ISP .. so choices are limited .. just wondering as the device functions sometimes and randomly stops functioning perhaps of you guys may know have an idea on whats going on and hopefully we'll be able to fix it.

I don't really know what info to post .. so just ask.

    Thanks in advance!

Well you are not using a American ISP, but a form of Cellular data connection. Of course you are going to have high latency, slow upload and download speeds.

What you are using is what is considered old school technology. You will never, ever get anything better than what you are with that setup.

I really do not know why you are blaming the computer hardware or OS. Then again, that is always what people blame first for all of their issues.

I think you misunderstood, I said the tech guys from the ISP suggested that its a win8 issue and from my understanding .. it runs on win8.1 version that im using but randomly it stops working ... but on that time .. I connected the modem to a friends system and it worked fine there .. thus .. maybe something is interfering ... im just assuming and no im not complaining about the ping/bandwidth that I have .. ofcourse i want better but well nk choices so no complains .. just trying to get this random net outage issue fixed.

Also on another note .. when I cant browse .. I noticed if I run steam, and an online game for example dota2 .. I can play/watch live games just fine .. but at the same time im still unable to open any website .. which is why im thinking maybe its actually something with my system but given the fact I don't much about win8 .. perhaps someone here have an idea.

I have not misunderstood anything. Your issue is with the fact that you are using older data technology on a foreign ISP, in a country that is over populated, with others trying to use the service. It will never be perfect where you are at.

Unless you are connected to an ISP that allows you to have 40 mb/s, low latency. That is the only way you will ever be able to do something on the Internet.

Of course the tech guys for the provider are going to state that there is no problem with their service. Even though that they know that they have oversold the service, which has maxed out the capacity of their infrastructure.

I have told you yesterday and today what is exactly the issue. The answer is to find a ISP that uses LTE for Data and has not oversold/over saturated their service. Which is really hard, because you will never find one in India.

You seem to have a very negative attitude in almost all your posts and miss what is being asked and what information has been offered.

If it worked in Windows 7 for 4/5 years then it should work in Windows 8. Definitely an OS problem.

gabe22, fromk what I can find, these are the drivers available for your WiMax adapter for 8.1:

Is the top one what you are using? Can you post a screen capture of Device Manager with the WiMax Driver properties shown? Something like this:

Hmmm, looks like you have a Beceem WiMax USB Dongle, not sure the Intel driver I found will work.

Worth trying. If it doesn't work uninstall it roll back the driver from Device Manager. The only Beceem drivers I've found are for XP and Vista.

Try just the top one, for Windows 8.1 64 bit.
