My wifi doesn't work

Hello all. I had (again) problems with my wi-fi connection both at work and at home. Although I usually I could connect after one or two reboots, this time, after five restarts, the adapter does not connect. This bored me.

Currently I am connected with a Linux distribution, then I'll post the information on the network adapter that this distribution gives me:

Code:

It is a Linux issue, you need to go to a forum that deals with the Distro you are using. Broadcom chips have a big issue with the Linux Kernel no cooperating with them, so you have to use "Man in the Middle" software to get them to work. You are better off using either a Realtek or Intel chip Networking adapter.

Then why did you even mention Linux, same as posting information for that only has to deal with Linux.

Unless there is an issue with IPTables on the machine that is running Linux, that is being used as a Gatway (ie Smoothwall, m0n0wall, pfSense), the OP needs to be asking about this in the associated Linux forum that is for the distro they are using.

All routers run on some form of Linux. But the correct answers can not be given in a Windows forum. I have been using Linux off and on since 1997. But I still have to call up my brother about certain items that I run into, that you cannot find a clear enough answer online in the forums, etc.. Because not every person using Linux, will always have the same problem as another.

Physical what Linux distro are you using? Are you using it as a Gateway instead of a router, or using it as an "Edge" router, behind another.

If the second is the case, you need to ask in a Linux forum for that distro. There are certain items that can only be addressed in those forums. That is because you have people that also have a background in Unix on those forums, along with ones who work on the Kernel's.

As I stated before. Broadcom Chipsets will not always work 100% with the Linux Kernel, because you have to use Ndiswrapper, along with the Windows WiFi adapter drivers. This should help about installing different drivers for your distro. Installing Broadcom Wireless Drivers - Ask Ubuntu

Really need to see the Device Manager info as you are showing no connection at all, not even the default IP (169.254.x.x) used when no network is found.

It's Xubuntu 14.04 LTS, but it is not installed, it was in LIVECD.

My network is a simple: PC ---> ROUTER ---> INTERNET

Sort of a stupid question, but is the wireless light on the front of the laptop on (Blue)?
The control to turn it on and off is Fn+F5.

Can you borrow a wireless dongle from a friend? If so, try it in place of the built-in wireless.

Wireless works okay when you booted the Linux Live disc, right? If yes then the hardware is okay so it's a Windows problem. If nothing else fixes this you may have to backup your data and reinstall. You can use the Lenovo One Key recovery button above the keyboard to do this, but backup first.

Since it's not hardware, you could try a Repair Install, see if it fixes it. If not then do a Clean Install.

If you decide to go this route I strongly urge you to backup first. Image backup to an external hard drive is the way to go.

Since you are just using Xubuntu not pfSense or Smoothwall, it will not act as a Edge Router. You need a Router build of Linux, not a desktop version.

Bro, what are you talking about? He is booted to Linux so he can post here about his problem with Windows, not Linux.
The OP is using Linux as a Firewall/Edge Router. It is running on a different computer than the one that he is running Windows on.

The version he is using is meant to be a Desktop distro, and running it on a CD is not going to work. They need a dedicated machine with a installed Router version of Linux, such as pfSense, Smoothwall, m0n0wall.

If they are having issues with the Linux part. They need to be on the Ubuntu forum at ubuntuforums.org, which has all of the info. If they want to run a real Router Distro, see above. There is a reason why there are dedicated packages for Linux, that work as router, Domain/Workgroup servers.

He doesn't care about Linux. He said he's booting a Live Linux CD so he can report his Windows problems.
