LAN proxy affects WiFi connection?

    LAN proxy affects WiFi connection?

I've just got a brand new work machine with Windows 8.1 Pro x64 installed.

When I connect to the network LAN, I need to set up a proxy address to have it working, which I did. However it looks like the same setting now affects also WiFi - when I connect to a wireless network I'm unable to access any resource. The problem is gone when I manually disable LAN proxy in the Internet Explorer settings. Is that normal?

I used to run Windows 7 Pro x64 on the previous machine with the same proxy settings and WiFi connection were not affected at all. I was able to connect to any wireless networks and access any resources without disabling LAN proxy.

My understanding is that LAN proxy settings should be applicable to the cable connection only, not to the wireless one. Is that correct?

Is there a way my WiFi bypassed the LAN proxy?

That is how a proxy works.

The settings dialog says the proxy will not apply to Dial-up and VPN, nothing about WiFi.

Well, that's what I thought, however in my previous machine switching to wireless caused no problems with proxy. Most likely there was some setting / script that disabled proxy setting for WiFi connection.

On the other hand seeing setting named "LAN settings" suggests that proxy set there would apply only to cable connection... Don't you think so?

It would be applied to any connection you use to connect to the LAN.

The definition is Local Area Network which would include Ethernet and Wireless. I did a fair amount of Google searches on this and did not find any that indicated you could have a proxy apply to only your Ethernet connection. Everything I found indicated proxy applied at the OS level, not at the device level.

You can Ztrucker. But you have to use third party software.

You just need to set browser properties within the selected profile - you can set the proxy settings work there (I needed some time to find this option... )

A good (but unrelated to proxy) tip when using NSM is not to disable other adapters as then it takes ages to switch the profile and both my machines (Fujitsu and HP branded) tend to not to recognize WiFi card many times.
