Win 8.1 Network Credentials Not Recognized

I started with a network consisting of a Win 8.1 and a Mac OSX 10.9 connected in a workgroup. At that point I was able to access the Mac from the Win PC without any login. Subsequently I added a Win 7 PC to the workgroup. Now when I try to access the Mac, Win 8.1 gives me a panel asking for my login credentials. I have been to the Credentials Manager and set the credentials for the Mac. However, when I try to enter the log on and password that I specified in the Credentials Manager, I receive a "password incorrect" message. I would prefer to have no log on at all the way I was to able to access the Mac previously.

This is a Mac OS issue. It is because of Samba why you are getting that issue with the Mac. Also if IPTables is screwed up on the Mac, or Firewall is enabled, you will have issues.

https://www.apple.com/support/ has a networking forum, along with info to fix this problem with Mac OS.

Thanks for the reply. However, I think it's unlikely that Samba or anything else on the Mac is the problem since the issue occurred immediately after I added the Win 7 PC to my network.

I'm also surprised that you recommended Fix My PC since the reviews I've read mainly characterized it as an adware trojan.

Finally, if you've been to the Apple Mac forums lately, you'll know that it's extremely difficult to access specific forums by topic and their search engine is not very useful.

Again it is a Samba issue with your Mac. You can only find out how to fix it, by going to that link I posted. The only reason that the Mac forums are difficult, you find stuff like that in all forums.

There is also the Mac forum over at DSLreports.com. You may run into the same situation. Do a search on Google or yahoo, and you may hit the correct post on the Apple Support forum that walks you through.

Samba is a finicky critter. Some versions of it, will allow you to use a different Workgroup name. Others need you to keep the workgroup named "workgroup".

Of course it could be as simple as a keychain problem on your Mac.
