Wired connection problem on a new laptop (Windows 8.1)

First of all, I appreciate your time and please bear with me.
I just bought a new laptop with Windows 8.1 and have an issue with wired connection.
I don't have a router so I couldn't test the wireless connection but the public WiFi seems to be working ok with the device.
After some search, I noticed that there were threads with similar issues but I still couldn't resolve the problem.

So currently, when I connect the Ethernet to my old laptop (Windows 7), it works fine.
However, when I plug it on the new laptop, it shows : "Unidentified network", "Limited" and cannot connect to the internet.

I updated the Windows after I got the laptop and rebooted the laptop and the internet connection.
I also did attached ipconfig texts/img files on both the older laptop (while plugged) and the new laptop (while plugged)
as well as the current network settings on both devices.

Please let me know, what else I should try.

New laptop model: Dell Inspiron 15
Old laptop model: Lenovo V570

I would guess, that Virtual PC Network Filter driver is to blame, try to uncheck it.

Anyway, disable IPv6 (uncheck), it causes more problem, than it is worth.
You could also uninstall protocols, you do not use, like File and Printer sharing.
You could also setup a custom DNS, it increases stability and security among others.

OpenDNS or GoogleDNS or NortonDNS.

Click on Diagnose in the Ethernet Status window.

After the diagnosis, I received message: "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration.

I followed this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nLaA42SsrUA
where I changed properties of IPv4 to the following IP address
IP address: 192.168.1.101
Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0
Default gateway: 192.168.1.1

Preferred DNS server:192.168.1.1
Alternate DNS server: 218.248.240.23
checked "Validate settings upon exit"

Then I received Windows Network Diagnostics:
Investigate broadband modem issues
1. Turn off the device.
2. Wait for at least 10 seconds.
3. Turn the device on.
After following the instruction I received,

Troubleshooting has completed
Trobuleshooting was unable to automatically fix all of the issues found. Details:
Problems found
The default gateway is not available. Not fixed.

So I am still in the same page.

I did unchecked the IPv6 which didn't work for me after trying it again. I will see if I can install the custom DNS.

First DNS servers are wrong. Try 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 or set to automatic.

Also try leaving default gateway blank. And set IP address to automatic.

Just wanted to say, I'm having the SAME PROBLEM with the SAME EXACT ethernet card (Realtek PCIe). My wifi is fine, I cannot get a wired connection, my ipconfig numbers look just like yours. I am running Windows 8, and Online Armor firewall and Avast antivirus. I'm going to follow this thread in case anyone says anything I haven't tried.
I wonder if Realtek somehow has a problem with their hardware? Mine worked fine for two years, this started a few weeks ago for me.

You know, I can't remember! Since I've decided I'm going to do a clean 8.1 install if possible, I'm struggling less with this. I do have wifi so I'm not helpless - but it BUGS ME!
I appreciate your help very much. I'm working on getting my Win 8.1 bootable USB ready and hope I can do this without too much pain... I'd rather not waste more than a full day's work on computer maintenance!

I downloaded a Windows 8.1 ISO and am getting ready to use Rufus to put it on a USB. I don't remember being asked prior to the download if I was going to do UEFI, so I determine that later, correct?

I am getting dizzy clicking through to all the tutorials embedded within tutorials! I downloaded my ISO image and made a bootable USB with Rufus - didn't know whether to choose NTFS or FAT32 so I chose NTFS and then I found a tutorial 2 levels down that said to choose FAT32. Do I need to do it again? Thanks!
NM I did it again.... :)

Did you create a UEFI/GPT flash drive via Rufus?

Yes, from the ISO I downloaded. I went back and made sure of my settings and redid it, so that is what I have. I am getting my 1TB external drive tomorrow to take an image, then I guess I'll pull the trigger! I followed the tutorial settings that said to choose GPT and FAT32. I'm going to print some tutorial pages so I have them on hand. I can do everything I need from the installation USB drive, right? I don't have to go deleting partitions or anything manually first?

(I keep trying to click thumbs up but it says I have to give some reputation to someone else before I give it to you again... :))
