No internet when connected to 5G?

i have a new Alienware 17 laptop and it has a weird internet connection issue. when i connect it to my routers 2.4G network it works fine, but when i try to connect it to the 5G part it has issues. the network shows, and i can connect to it, but when im connected to it, i cant load anything on any browser or anything else internet related. ive tried updating drivers and installing windows updates, i have no idea what it could be, can someone please help. Also i dont think it could be my router because my phone, tablet, and other older laptop can all connect and use the 5G connection with no issues. hopefully someone knows what is wrong...

Have you tried updating the drivers on the laptop? Is the wifi card set to allow it to automatically decide if it will connect to 2.4 or 5? What channels are you using for the 5ghz band? What do you have for router settings for 2.4ghz & 5ghz.

You need to use 2 channels to get the best speed. Set the Nighthawk to handle both Wireless-ac & n for the 5ghz radio. For the 2.4ghz, set it to only handle Wireless-n if you do not have equipment that relies on B & G. Also set channel bandwidth for 40mhz only for both 2.4 & 5.

As for the wifi card, you just have to go to Network Neighborhood and click on the adapter, then open up the card properties to look at the card settings.

Some people use the program that is used with the router, to allow you to handle Wireless config. Others just lets Windows handle it.

The manual at Netgear.com has everything you need to know, for adjusting the router settings properly.

Again you still have problems regardless if you connect to the 5Ghz radio. Stop calling it the 5G band. It makes it sound like you are trying to use Cellular data.

The book for your Gateway is on the CD or DVD that came with it. You can also as I stated before, download it from Netgear's website.

This is something you need to figure out on your own. Because no one has access to your network on this site, nor do we know what the Gateway settings are set at. So start reading. It is the only way that you can teach yourself this stuff. Same way that I taught myself about this stuff.
