    How to only allow specific machines to access shares?

    Hi guys,

    I think this should be a fairly simple one, but I've had no luck in nailing down a solution on my own.

    I have three systems (named "A57", "M58" and "T400"), on each I've shared the data partition (D: with access of "Full Control" for "everyone". This seems a bit risky to me, even though it's a home network, it does go through our internet router.

    Each machine can see the shares on the other two.I'm only using simple networking, with no domain set up or anything like that. The workgroup is just set to the default "WORKGROUP".

    What I'd like to do is limit access to the shares, so that only the three machines can access them. The user account I'm using on each machine is an admin-level account. The account names for each machine are as follows:

    A57 = a57user
    M58 = m58user
    T400 = t400user

    What permissions/settings do I need to set on each of the shares to only allow these three machines to access each others network shares?

    Use Password protection for security. The only problem is that they get full access to every share. You are better off using a NAS, if you want to only allow individuals to those shares that their user ID on the NAS allows.

Hi I had to enable offline folders to use libraries with network shares. After the computer running for some hours the network access (LAN only) is dead slow. After a reboot it is fine again for some hours. Is there any setting to look for?
I believe the title provides enough info, but I am wondering as an example in Windows 8.1 if you can create a stand user account called "user1" that can access only MS Office Word, and "user2" that can only access MS Office Excel. Is this type of control possible ?
It´s a desktop using wifi to avoid a long cable deployment. I´m using my husband´s machine, right next to mine, to post about it, over the same wifi network, but according to my machine there are either no networks available or the connection is limited, which seems to mean useless. The device...
So I was browsing the web, looking for a way to disable the Start background for a certain user (he keeps toying around with windows 8) and other permissions too. Most things I disabled were meant to be used with gpedit.exe, but I used a user Snap-In in mmc.exe. However, I and some other people...

Just upgraded 2 computers, a laptop and a desktop to windows 8, clean install. I shared my files on the desktop and mapped it to my laptop as a network drive. i am able to access it through explorer and programs like chrome but some programs can't even see the drive. Tried using UNC paths but...
Yesterday I installed Ubuntu beta 12.04 LTS. I want to access my other machines' Windows hard drives which are already configured to share in the workgroup fashion. All Homegroup and IPv6 stuff are disabled across the board on all machines. (And yes, I know Homegroup is only for 7 and 8.) I...
