    Homegroup Connection Problems

    Hello.

I have got a new Internet Connection for some weeks now and I have got some issues with my Homegroup. I am able to create and join the Homegroup, but if i restart the devices (Laptop and Desktop-PC) they are shown in the List in the Explorer but they are shown as offline devices. I am still able to access the devices through the Network, but the Homegroup-Connection doesn't work. I still have my old internet-provider because the old one is via telephone wire and the new one is via cable (TV). So I have tested to switch to the old connection and the other Router. In this Network the homegroup access works correct.

So my guess was that the problem has to do with the router and I have told this my new internet-provider, but they say it is a problem which windows causes due to difficulties with the IPv4 and IPv6 Standard. My old internet-provider gave me an IPv4-Adress and my new provider said that they gave me a new IPv6-Adress.

I live in Germany ... perhaps it is important :-)

I have now knowledge about these Network-IPAdress-Things and I hope that you can help me solving this problem.

Your provider and gateway have nothing to do with this.

So what causes the Problems? If it has nothing to do with the IPv6- and IPv4-Thing, then the Router must have problems with the Homegroup. Because with the same windows-settings I can establish a connection with the old Router ...

I have already tried to disable the firewall of the router, but that didnt help solving the problem!

    Hello.

I think I have found the reason why the Homegroup-Connection doesn't work. In the settings of my Router I have seen the following summary:

And I have read the fourth post of this thread:

windows 7 - Homegroup doesn't show other computers, but "Network" does - Super User

Then I have tried to connect the Notebook with a cable ... and there it works :-)

But now I have the problem to get my wireless device (the notebook) a "none Static-IP-Adress".

Are you able to help me?

IPv6 and IPv4 are both on automatic ... this is the only setting I know that has something to do with static and automatic IP-addresses

Sill needing ISP, Gateway model & manufacturer of the unit. Keep running yourself around in circles, is not going to get you any help.

Since you have new hardware, I suggest that you re-create your Homegroup Network ie. in each PC/Laptop, go to control panel->Homegroup then Leave the Homegroup.

After every PC/Laptop left the Homegroup.
    1. Power off your router and leave it off for 10, 15 minutes or so then power it on again.
    2. Open the Admin command prompt in each PC/Laptop and type: ipconfig /flushdns then reboot
    3. Make sure in each PC/Laptop, you have the same workgroup name, e.g WORKGROUP or whatever you name it.
    4. Create a new Homegroup on one PC and on the others, join the homegroup.
