Homegroup preventing access to directories

  1. #11

Remove all the computers from the homegroup, then make sure firewalls are off, try that, if that doesn't work, do a Reset of the master Gateway ? If so how do you do this ? My IP is dynamic from my ISP ?

Press the reset button on the back of the Gateway.

You still need to go through all machines and flush the DNS. There is a tool on Bleeping computer.com. Go to their download area and search for "farbar".

There is three tools regarding this area. You want to download minitoolbox and service scanner. It fixes any network problems.

The time I had an issue with the two desktops running 7 pro 32-bit we had with homegroup. I tried everything I could to fix it. Nothing worked. Even tried the remove network driver, set up a new account. Nothing mattered with the one desktop that had the printer attached.

I finally just pulled the trigger and did a complete reinstall of the OS. I put all of my son's stuff on a Toshiba 1TB Canvio I had and then spent the next couple of nights going and reloading all of his programs and documents.

That was when I decided to get the NAS & use Clonezilla to make a image when stuff was installed or removed. Also used a 50 gb box.com accuI got when iOS 5 came out, to store a copy of all local documents and kept a portable copy of everything on the Canvio.

I've run this situation though three people, all those people were unable to get it fixed. I'm not going to reinstall the OS, I'm extremely pissed off, after two and a half weeks, this problem is not solved.

Leave the homegroup, join the homegroup, leave the home group, join the homegroup, all I have is a huge network mess whereas I can't even share a folder between two computers, let alone access my NAS though the client computer, this has turned into a extreme networking mess, everyone telling me different crap and nothing works. I've searched online for numerous answers and nothing works, nothing, nothing, nothing works, instead a screwed up mess.

Regular networking is all you need. Home Groups was not well thought out by Microsoft. The coding is sloppy for it.

Regular Networking doesn't work, since removing my computer from a homegroup as you suggested my entire network is a giant #$%#$% mess.

    Thank you broe23,
The task of adding a windows 8.1 computer to my regular network proved difficult. Never created a home group as regular networking works for me, 8 networked computers with various operating systems, Windows XP Pro, Vista & Windows 7 Pro. Guess what, one computer on the network had home group enabled (my son). Even though it was not utilized it caused the problem. After I left the home group on that system, restarted all computers, regular network sharing worked for the windows 8.1 system.
TeeHeeHee, learned something new today, always check all settings on every computer in the network as someone else may have changed something.
    Cheers!
    Toni
