Unable to contact your DHCP server

    I'm using Windows 8.1 on a HP 64 bits.
I'm unable to connect via my Ethernet Cable to the local Network.

I get the message: "Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP configuration, and the connection says: "Unidentified Network - Limited".

My DHCP server has the following IP address:

    Command ipconfig says that:
    Ethernet adapter Ethernet:
    Autoconfiguration IPv4 Address:

This IPC address given by the autoconfiguration is wrong!!!

I tried a few fixes, according to what I've found on Internet.

    1. First try

    ipconfig /release
    ipconfig /renew
    Doesn't fix my problem.

    2. Another try

    netsh windows reset catalog
    netsh int ipv4 reset reset.log
    Doesn't fix my problem.

    3. Another try

    netsh interface ipv4 show inter

    => gives me: idx = 20 for Name="Ethernet"
    then: netsh interface ipv4 set interface 20 dadtransmits=0 store=persistent
then: disable startup type for service "DHCP client", stop the service, unplug Ethernet cable
then: startup type = automatic for service "DHCP client", restart the service, plug Ethernet cable
    Doesn't fix my problem.
    What can I do now?!!!
    Thanks for any help.

What does Device Manager look like? Any yellow marks? Is the network showing as working?

Hi! Thank you for the reply. Unfortunately it doesn't answer my problem...

What does Device Manager look like?

Device Manager looks fine: everything is correct, no driver missing, no yellow mark at all.
Is the network showing as working?

The network works. I can connect to the network and to Internet by WiFi. The problem seems to me as linked to the specific interface for an Ethernet cable connection.

Did you try taking the computer to the Router/Gateway and see if it is just a bad cable or Ethernet jack?

Thank you to try to help me.

Yes, I checked the cable and the Ethernet jack. No "material" problem…

Please do the following with the Ethernet cable connected.

    Open a Elevated Command Prompt:

    XP, Vista or Windows 7:

Click on the Start button and type cmd.
DO NOT press Enter or click Go.
Look at the upper part of the window and you will see cmd.exe.
Right click on it and select Run as Administrator.

    Windows 8 or 8.1:

Press WIN + X to open Start context menu.
    Select Command Prompt (Admin).

Paste the following into the Command Prompt window, exactly as shown, including double quotes:

    cmd /c "ipconfig /all > postme.txt & ping >> postme.txt & reg query "HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings" >> postme.txt & notepad postme.txt & del postme.txt"

    and press ENTER.

A file will open in Notepad. Please copy and paste the contents here. Close the Notepad window and the file will be deleted and the Command Prompt window will also close.
