"Ethernet" doesn't have a valid IP config, only 1 computer

While this, or similar, issue seems to have happened elsewhere, if the various threads are any indication, however none of the solutions have worked with my issue.

Computer was working fine on Thursday. Appears to have been an update/restart overnight. Now there is no internet connection on a desktop running Win8. It is seeing both the ethernet and the WiFi connecdtion, however, there is no access and when troubleshooting those connections, it says 'Ethernet (or WiFi) doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

I'm using an XFinity Qualcomm modem/router...single device. I have 3 ethernet cables plugged in...one to the home computer (the one with the issue), one to a Win7 laptop that's working same as it ever was, and one going to a powerline adapter and running a second wireless router and the Roku box. Again, everything is working fine...EXCEPT the home computer.

I have talked with my ISP. They've said it's not their issue.

I've powered down, drained the power, left it unplugged and drained all weekend, restarted, rebooted, reset the modem, ipconfig /release then ipconfig /renew, I can't get anything to work...the connections still say limited and no access. I manually added the laptop's IP settings in the ipv4 settings and shut off the laptop...all to no avail...

Here's a screenshot of the ipconfig data:

I'm usually pretty good at doping these things out, but this one has me stumped.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Regards,
    wec3

Have you tried uninstalling the Ethernet adapter from Device Manager then rebooting and letting Windows rediscover it and reload the driver? Sometimes that fixes it.

If not, try adding a new Gigabit Ethernet card.

It can also be caused by a bad Ethernet cable.

You do not have to let the Gateway sit with no power for a long period.

If you are not getting a proper IP scheme. Look for bad cables, which is done by swapping cables and ports on the gateway. Bad Ethernet adapter (use a USB to Ethernet, or another adapter card.

Could be disabled in the bios. Could be a screwed up driver install or even as simple as the Internet Security software if you are using one, can cause the computer to not get a proper IP.

Uninstalling and rebooting didn't work...but thanks for that, I hadn't tried that.

I had tried swapping out the cable previously, however I used an old cable I had in the bucket o'cables...will get a new one to make sure that's not the issue.

Thanks for the help, I'll keep trying.

New cable didn't work. I suppose the next attempt will be the USB to Ethernet

You could add a new PCI or PCI-E Ethernet card instead of a USB dongle but USB is a good way to test, especially if you already have one.

Hi...wanted to follow up on this. I tried the dongle...again, the computer recognized the connection, but still said the IP address is not valid.

The next step is a new card if what I've gathered from the advice so far is right. Is this so?

I'm not sure a new network card will help since both the current one and the USB don't work. You could try one but I suspect it's a software issue of some kind.

Before trying a new one, download and run the portable version of Tweaking.com's Windows Repair All-In-One., Run each of the steps in order then when you get to the Start Repair section, take the defaults as set. It will take awhile to run as it re-registers a lot of system DLL's so be patient. Once complete reboot and see how things are.

If that doesn't help then try a new network card. I'd recommend a Gigabit card, any manufacturer since it's capable of the highest thru put.

I think copied that program to the computer a few weeks ago when it first happened...but it may have been another. I'll try it and report back.
