I need to be able to use Remote Assistance to help my elderly aunt with her new laptop. We both have Windows 8.1 Pro.
The steps required for her to invite me to assist her are too complicated. If she could follow all that, she wouldn't need my assistance!

I can't figure out how to make a shortcut that she can just click on, or how to directly open Windows Remote Assistance.

I can right click Start, choose System, then Remote Settings, then click on "What happens when I enable Remote Assistance?" which takes you to a help window from which you choose "How can I get help?" Then you have to scroll down and click on "Tap or click to open Windows Remote Assistance." Then click on "Invite someone you trust to help you." then click on the person.

I'm sorry, I'm sure there has to be an easier way.

Would not be simpler to use TeamViewer? It runs as a service, so you can connect anytime.
When you create a free account, you do not even need to type PIN/password everytime.

question on teamviewer

Will Team Viewer allow her to watch me do things on her desktop? Remote Assistance is exactly what we need. I don't just want to access her computer, I need to show her how to do things. (which I realize might sound pretty funny since I can't figure out how to do this!!)

Yes, TeamViewer is like more friendly version of Remote Assistance and it is easier to setup.
I use it to maintenance computers of my friends, when they need to do something remotely.
You can watch, what is going on, including movies with sound, not very privacy friendly. :geek:
