I have an some IP cameras connected to a router via RJ45 Ethernet cable. The router is NOT connected to the internet.

The Ethernet connection works perfectly on my windows 7 system, but is not recognized on thewindows 8.1 system.

Any idea on why this happens on Windows 8.1 and how to correct it?

Does the Ethernet adapter appear in Device Manager? Can you get into the router GUI by entering its address into the browser? What port are you plugging the computer into on the router? What make/model computer, adapter and router? Some specs would sure help.

Dual boot or separate computers?

And welcome to the forum!

They are separate computers the windows 7 it works fine. I can't get to the routers GUI on the windows 8 machine, but on windows 7 yes. port #1 (not the isp input port) port 2 & 3 hold IP cameras.

Computer is HP Pavilion 500-321, router is a linksys e1000, adapter is Realtek PCIe family controller.

When I plug the same cable into the windows 7 machine everything works fine.

Thanks!

Won't get anywhere until you can see the router. I believe the address should be 192.168.1.1. You are also showing a USB ASIX adapter. Latest drivers and router firmware?

I understand that I need to get to the router and that is the reason I am posting here. I also know the routers address as I can get to it on my windows 7 machine, but what's different in windows 8 vs windows 7?

I can get to it on my windows 7 machine everything works fine, but every windows eight machine I have tried will not recognize the router.

Latest drivers from Realtek? Realtek

If yes then have to wonder if the router is 8.1 compatible, is a fairly old model.

From what I can see, you have 3 network devices installed:

One is Wireless. Which of the other two are you connected to? Have you tried removing one of the Ethernet devices, see what that does?
