Other computer in Work Group asks for Password to Connect

I am trying to access a Windows Workgroup from a MacBook Pro. I created a Workgroup and I can see it from the Mac. However, when I try to connect to the Windows desktop from the Mac, it asks for a connection password. I didn't setup a password for the Workgroup and I don't think the Windows desktop has a password. I'm not sure how to override it or even go back and setup one so I can give it to other computers.

I can't seem to get through this hurdle. Thanks in advance for any help you can offer.

From the PC where you have the problem accessing from MAC.
Control Panel->Network and Sharing Center->Change Advanced Sharing Settings. Scroll down to the bottom and click on All Networks then click on "Turn off password protected sharing". Click on Save changes.

Thank you, Topguncp. Password Protected Sharing was turned on. I turned it off like you said and that worked, but then when I went back to the Mac to try it, for some reason, the Windows desktop wasn't visible in the Finder window. It had showed up before so I thought I set it up properly, but then had the problem I previously described when I tried to connect to it. Now, it doesn't show up in the Finder window so I'm wondering what I did to get it to display the first time.

    Hi Bumper90
    What firewall are you using?

On the Windows desktop, I am using Norton Internet Security / Antivirus.

Windows Home Group depends on specific firewall rule sets, are you sure your Norton firewall is configured correctly to allow home group to work?

I would recommend to temporary disable firewall on both laptops, reboot them both and see if home group work afterwards.

That is because Samba on your Mac is causing that problem. Support.apple.com has information there on connecting Mac's to Windows network. Usually the problem is with Keychain on the Mac.
