    Cannot Ping my own PC

I have a problem with 2 PC which are networked. I try to ping my PC which has a fixed ip of 192.168.1.135 and I get an error message. The screen below shows the results when I had NO firewall installed on my pc (running Win 8.1). The other PC (running Win 7) also has a fixed IP 192.168.1.149 and I cannot ping it from my PC or from itself in command prompt.
My PCs are networked and I have no problem using my file manager to see each PC from the other PC.
I would appreciate any help or suggestionsClick image for larger version

It is dependent on the router settings. As long as the computer is getting an IP from the router, able to get online, no IP conflicts, do not worry about it.

I do need to worry about it because since I cannot ping the PC I am also having problems setting up an FTP account. So I am hoping to solve the ping and then hopefully that will resolve the error message I get when I try to connect using FTP

From the start menu, search for file and print sharing. In there you will find by default that the box does not respond to pings. Networking works just fine without this.

This will not have any impact or fix your FTP issue I'm afraid.

Not sure what you are trying to tell me. I went into the file and printer sharing and I have discovery turned on I did not see anything about pings

Sorry, i wasn't on my 8.x computer when I posted earlier. You need to turn on File and Print sharing...that is what makes pings works.

All of the PC are on the same homegroup and they all have an IP of 192.168.1.xxx

But what subnet mask do you have set. That determines which subnet they are actually on. if you have the subnet said differently you would actually need a router to router the traffic between the two subnets. so you need to check and make sure that the subnet mask is the same.
