Hi
I do not know if I am in the right place, but I have a Sony bravia TV and it shows up in my list of devices in win 8, and I can say I do not honestly know what to do with it.
Can I steam video and music to or from it or what?

My ROKU2 player used to show up there also, But I have not seen it in a couple of days.

I just want to know what are my options with these two devices
Please
Thanks

Hi, welcome.

You use it like it is another monitor. Right click the desktop and choose Screen resolution. With the options there, you can choose to extend the desktop to it, so there are now 2 monitors instead of 1.

I can't be more precise because my 2nd monitor broke and I have not replaced it yet, so I don't have options.

When there are 2 screens shown in that application, you can move them around as how they are in real life, so the monitors are positioned in the software as they are in the physical world.

The problem is, under Display, I do not see the TV listed (or the ROKU2, for that matter.) I see my main monitor, my smaller monitor (an old 15" IBM flat screen" and that is it - no TV listed in display.

Hi there
plug your TV from the computer in via either HDMI (Preferably) or the VGA input.

Now press the WINDOWS key + P on your keyboard and you'll see an option whether to switch to external monitor / use two monitors / use your normal display (built in one if it's a laptop).

After completely finishing with the external display remember to set the display back to your standard one via the Windows + P key again.

If you're W8 can see it, you can Play To it videos/movies and view photos it. All you do is righ-click on the video/file and Play To .. wirelessly.

Hey Jimbo? I have a problem like that, but mine is I can see the TV within Win8, but the only output it gives me is a repair for the TV screen, and requests a password to go further, and it is not my Windows password, is there anyway to get passed this? It's a Phillips 52" TV LCD. What I tried so far, called Phillips and they cannot help me, saying that it is a repair screen, and only an authorized repair person has that password. I say I own this TV, and should be supplied this password. Then the phone went click...they hung up on me. LoL

Hi there
did you connect the VGA or HDMI cable to the TV from your computer. Also what TV application are you using to output to the TV screen.

I'd start first by playing a DVD -- use VLC player (Free) and see if you can view that on your TV screen (should just work as an external monitor) . Note that you will probably need to set the TV screen via AV on its remote controller to accept external input.

Once that works then try your TV application -- either Internet TV or TV tuner card / usb tuner device.

I connected using a HDMI (High Definition Midi/Media Interface) cable. I can't get any further than the repair interface password screen. And then went thru HDMI 1, 2, and 3 with the TV remote. I need to bypass this *ahem* password they put on my TV. I bet it would make a great monitor had it not been Phillips locking it off from my use of doing so.

Depending on your video card, it is more than likely that it can only run 2 displays at any given time and never 3 or more.
