No wired internet connection after uninstalling mcafee

    Hi all,

I bought my Acer notebook last month - bundled with Windows 8.1 and a 30 day McAfee trial. All's been working perfectly until I uninstalled McAfee (followed by running their removal tool, rebooting etc. - everything's been done by the book) last night.
Now there ain't no internet on the notebook. My PC and work laptop both connect through the router without a hitch. Troubleshooting doesn't offer any solutions.
I've not yet been able to try a WiFi connection so don't know if that's working or not.
I'm not super-confident with this stuff, but I have checked out various Googly suggestions (network adapters etc.) and nothing's shouting "I'm the problem! Over here!"
I'm hearing all sorts of bad stuff about McAfee - and good things about Defender, which started up on the reboot after the McAfee 'purge'.
I'd really really appreciate some help or guidance here. Feeling a bit lost.
    Thanks

    Welcome to the forum!

Do the Pci NIC (LAN) adapter and wireless adapter both show up in Device Manager and no errors (yellow triangle)?

Thanks Popeye - good to be here.

In Device Manager>network adapters all eleven of 'em say "the device is working properly".

Although I'm not seeing anything that exactly matches what you're asking, I do see a Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter and a Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller.

    No yellow triangles, no sir.

If it would help copying and pasting anything in here, please let me know. Thanks again.

Eleven network adapters? Saaaaaay whaaaaat! Would love a pic showing that. Eleven adapters is definitely not normal.

Thought I had a lot with two VM adapters:

Well, that does seem quite a lot. Then I clicked to show the hidden ones - which are greyed out in the image. Make any sense at all?

I would start by making a restore point, uninstall everything under network adapters and reboot. Let what is really present re-install.
Also wondering if uninstalling McAfee did something to your firewall settings to mess things up.

Thanks again Popeye. Sounds like a plan - when I click to uninstall, it asks if I want to delete the drivers too? Should I do that for all, reboot and see what comes back?
    Cheers, M

No, don't delete the drivers. Simply trying to see if things reset with a re-install.

OK, that was a real step forward - I'm typing this on me notebook via wired connection.
I uninstalled everything and two came back:
    1. Qualcomm Atheros AR956x Wireless Network Adapter
    2. Realtek PCIe GBE Family Controller
Only thing is, the WiFi isn't working. I checked the Qualcomm and the driver's up to date according to the troubleshooter. It's great to have some internet back, but I'd really like me WiFi back too. Any ideas?
    And thanks once more, Popeye.
