problem with run ip address in win 8

hi all
I have bit of a problem which hopefully someone can help me with.
I have a thecus nas which I used to access under windows 7 by using the run command & inserting the following in the run box \xxx.xxx.xx.xx this being the ip address of the nas ,under win7 windows explorer would open showing shared folders on the nas.
under win 8 I just get message saying that \xxx.xxx.xx.xx cannot be found.
are they a method I could run the run command under win7 compatibility mode?

What are you trying to achieve? Also there is no such thing as Windows 7 compatibility mode in Windows 8.

I can log in on web interface but the interface is just to manage & set the thing up.
but to move files etc. I need to use explorer.

Ok you're typing the wrong thing in the run box. This is how you should type it in:

\\xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx You need two slashes and the IP address.

thanks for that but no joy same with result with one or two slashes
