My wife has a Lenovo laptop running 8.1. We recently changed our router, and I tried to set it up the same as the one it replaced. However, I found that a couple of devices wouldn't connect to it, because I hadn't put in a passphrase, just the WEP key. Putting in a passphrase fixed the problem, but meant that the WEP key changed, and the laptop could no longer connect to it (understandably). In all my experiments to try to find a way of editing the network's profile parameters, I think I discovered that there is no way to update the network settings in Windows 8.1. Even if you 'Forget' the network, it still appears in the list of visible networks, and when you try to connect to it, it never prompts for the WEP key, it just says "cannot connect to this network". I presume this is due to the fact that it hasn't forgotten it altogether, and it tries to re-use the old connection information. In the end I deleted the profile for that network from the registry, but it seems like a bit of a brutal fix. Is there a better way to do this?
