Okay, I have a mac, but at my school one needs to run Windows, and so I gave my laptop to Technical Support and they configured Windows 7 onto it. However, something wasn't right, as when I connected to my home network, this error in the title came up when I tried to access the desktop, and other locations. I upgraded to Windows 8, believing this would fix the problem, but, alas, it has not. I am now trying to install some graphics drivers, and installation repeatedly fails, saying it could not access various locations. How may I resolve this issue?

Here is a photo of said error message, I believe that possibly Windows 7 was installed on my computer, yet used our school network server as the desktop's (and other locations') install directory?

Hey, welcome.

Run Ccleaner with CCEnhancer add-on installed to clean the machine of MountPoints in Windows section on Applications Tab of its file cleaner function.

Use safe mode + networking to download, install and run, if necessary.

no, this did nothing to help - my idea is to re-route the 'desktop' to 'C:\Users\gibbdj\Desktop' instead of the network drive - how could I achieve this?

Give this a try: Windows key + Pause/Break key

Click Advanced System Settings then go to Computer Name tab. Click on Change. Put a new name and then click on Workgroup radio button. Give the Workgroup a name too, then click OK 2x to save. Reboot.

This appears to have resolved the situation - I am no longer receiving the error message, and have been able to install my graphics drivers. Thank you!
