    Router: Setup DNS?

    Hello.

I'm trying to set up my router's DNS manually, but I honestly have no idea what I'm doing.

Here's a screenshot of what my router's settings look like. Can someone please explain to me how I should fill out each of these fields? (And where do I get the info needed to fill them out?)

    Thanks in advance.

You need to let the ISP set the information automatically when you connect to them. Not knowing what you are doing, can cause headaches. You can go to EZLAN.NET

No you do not. The only stuff you would enter manually, would be the DNS servers, if you want to use alternative servers than your ISP issues through their system.

All of the info you are looking for, is in the manual for your router.

But can I change only the DNS and leaving the rest blank?

Read the manual for your router. Yes you can input your own DNS servers (ie Google, OpenDNS). Unless you are getting a Static IP from your ISP, you leave everything set to Automatic.

Now if you are doing what is called an "Edge Router", which is a router/gateway behind another one. You have to make some minor changes, such as the IP to access the router, and starting IP range for the router that is used as the "Edge Router".

change connection type to automatic, it should still leave you the DNS boxes to fill in if you want to, for example I use google dns "8.8.8.8" and their secondary is "8.8.4.4".

you insist on changing an ip maybe you want to change your own computers local ip for a static ip? you do that in Network Adapter Settings, is that what you meant ?
